the work ::

I create my whimsical, yet funtional pieces from velvety slabs of porcelain.  After rolling out a slab, I apply a variety of patterns and textures created from several handmade clay stamps and found objects.  After bisque firing, I apply and wipe off several colored stains.  I apply glaze where neeeded.  The pieces are then fired to Cone 6 in an oxidation atmosphere. 

I am inspired by myth, music lyrics and story-telling.  I tend to see the dark side of things, so I like to choose subject matter that is a bit dark...a little creepy or distrubing.  I also like to tweek the subject matter if it happens to be on the 'precious' side. 

All pieces are glazed for home use.  I prefer to handwash my pieces, but the less detailed pieces can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
